MADDER MORTEM RELEASE NEW VIDEO FROM LATEST ALBUM

Madder Mortem

“Liberator” is the declaration of intent from “Marrow” – it’s our call to arms. It’s a reminder to not make yourself smaller to appease others, but to sink your teeth into life and bite off way more than you can chew. Never let them drag you back into line!”

That’s what Norway’s MADDER MORTEM has to say about the track “Liberator” from their newly released album “Marrow”, and, fittingly, they have chosen to turn the track into a fascinatingly weird new video, once again calling upon the services of Costin Chioreanu to breathe visual life into their “call to arms”.

As the band explains:

After seeing Costin Chioreanu’s gorgeous artwork in the animated video for “Far From Home”, we really wanted to see what his take would be on a filmed video. Costin somehow managed to poke a hole in his incredibly busy schedule, and the video was shot in our home town of Nord-Odal over three hectic days. We wanted something different and unexpected and strange, and we love the surrealist feel of this video.

The video for “Liberator” can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/fSTDNCwrdAc

“Marrow” is MADDER MORTEM’s seventh full-length album, and one in which the band pursue a heavier, doomier, but at the same time, catchier, path, with Agnete M. Kirkevaag’s powerful vocals leading the way through eleven tracks that range freely over a variety of genres and soundscapes; from delicate ballads to powerful metal, via folk/prog and a touch of the avant-garde.

Produced by BP M. Kirkevaag, and mastered by Peter In de Betou at Tailor Maid, and with artwork by the legendary artist Thore Hansen, “Marrow” hit the streets on the 21 September on Dark Essence Records in Digipak CD, Digital, and Limited Edition Green Vinyl Gatefold LP formats.

NEW TRACK FROM UPCOMING MADDER MORTEM ALBUM RELEASED

Madder Mortem album Marrow, released by Dark Essence Records on 21.09.2018

Dark Essence Records are today making available one more track from “Marrow”, the upcoming opus from Alternative Metallers MADDER MORTEM ahead of it’s 21 September release.

The track, “Liberator”,  can be heard below, and is available to purchase from http://maddermortem.bandcamp.com/track/liberator, as well as from the usual streaming services

The band describes “Liberator” as being “Really a Madder roller coaster, a sense of urgency powering the soaring-then-plummeting changes of feeling and style, but with a meaty groove pushing it all forwards. It’s progressive in parts, but yet very melody-driven, and a perfect song for driving a little too fast.

“Lyrically, “Liberator” is a song about picking yourself up and going for what you want, no holds barred. It’s easy to lose yourself to the unending pressure to stay in line, but you need to shake off the grasping hands that would hold you back and fire on all cylinders. Life is short, and we all spend too much time on things that mean nothing to us. Don’t let the voices of “reason” get to you. Let the world end not with a whimper, but with a bang”.

“Marrow”,  the band’s seventh full-length album, finds MADDER MORTEM pursuing a heavier, doomier, but at the same time, catchier,  path.  It is a complex album, with Agnete M. Kirkevaag’s powerful vocals leading the way through eleven tracks that range freely over a variety of genres and soundscapes; from delicate ballads to powerful metal,  via folk/prog and a touch of the avant-garde.   It is this complexity, imbued as it is with all that is MADDER MORTEM, that makes “Marrow”  a very interesting prospect indeed.

According to the band, Marrow  is about “Sticking to the essence of yourself.  Your ideas, your thoughts, your values”,  and was produced by BP M. Kirkevaag, and mastered by Peter In de Betou at Tailor Maid.  With artwork by the legendary artist Thore Hansen, tracklisting for “Marrow” is as follows:

01. Untethered
02. Liberator
03. Moonlight Over Silver White
04. Until You Return
05. My Will Be Done
06. Far From Home
07. Marrow
08. White Snow, Red Shadows
09. Stumble On
10. Waiting To Fall
11. Tethered

“Marrow” will be available in Digipak CD, Digital, and Limited Edition Green Vinyl Gatefold LP formats and can now be pre-ordered from:

All formats: https://maddermortem.bandcamp.com

NEW VIDEO FROM ALTERNATIVE METALLERS MADDER MORTEM

With their seventh full-length album “Marrow” set to be released on Dark Essence Records on the 21 September, Norwegian Alternative Metallers MADDER MORTEM have released a new video for a track from the album.

Titled “Far From Home” the symbol-laden video is by the noted Romanian artist Costin Chioreanu  and can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/8DIDksyQJUk

About “Far From Home”, the band commented  that the track “grew out of an early morning’s vocals idea, and into a very Madder song. Everything we love is here: contrasts and melody, fragility and heaviness, anguish and hope. The lyrics are about a long night’s uneasy journey into day, about the gut-wrenching worry that rides on the back of truly caring for someone”.

Regarding the video itself, and the collaboration with Chioreanu, who has a long-standing history with Dark Essence Records and the Norwegian music scene, Madder Mortem went on to say:

“When we approached artist Costin Chioreanu about creating the video for “Far From Home”, we gave him the music, the lyrics, and otherwise an absolutely free rein. The result is his unique interpretation of the song and the feeling, and when we first saw it, we were all tearing up. Costin gave the song another dimension, and we are so grateful to him for expanding our music into the visual realm”.

As an album, the eleven-track “Marrow” is complex, covering a wide variety of genres and sounds that range from moments of folk/prog to avant-garde.  From delicate ballads to harsh metal, it  is more doomy  than its predecessor “Red in Tooth and Claw”, as well as being at times both heavier, and catchier.  It is, according to the band “about sticking to the essence of yourself.  Your ideas, your thoughts, your values”.

ALTERNATIVE METALLERS MADDER MORTEM REVEAL DETAILS AND TRACK FROM UPCOMING SEVENTH FULL-LENGTH ALBUM

Madder Mortem - Marrow

Norwegian Alternative Metallers MADDER MORTEM have today not only announced the details of their upcoming seventh full-length album “Marrow”, they have also revealed a track from the album.

Titled “Moonlight Over Silver White” the track is, according to the band, “the essence of what Madder Mortem is about. The contrasts between the gentle and the brutal, the chugging grooviness of the guitars in counterpoint to the soaring arpeggios of the vocals, and the wide range of musical influences knit together in a damn strong, heavy song. The lyrics are a tale of the loneliness of a forest in winter, walking lost and small between the downy snow and the glaring stars”.

“Moonlight Over Silver White” is also available as a single, and is available from, and can be heard below and at http://phonofile.link/moonlight-over-silver-white

“Marrow” sees MADDER MORTEM hungrier and heavier than ever before.  The eleven-track album is complex, covering a wide variety of genres and sounds that range from moments of folk/prog to avant-garde.  From delicate ballads to harsh metal. Agnete M. Kirkevaag’s dynamic and immensely powerful vocals, are, as always, at the fore on an album that is more doomy  than its predecessor “Red in Tooth and Claw”, as well as being at times both heavier, and catchier.

Set for release on Dark Essence Records on the 21st September, “Marrow” is about “Sticking to the essence of yourself.  Your ideas, your thoughts, your values”.  It was produced by BP M. Kirkevaag and mastered by Peter In de Betou at Tailor Maid.

With artwork by the legendary artist Thore Hansen, “Marrow” will be available in Digipak CD, Digital, and Limited Edition Green Vinyl Gatefold LP formats.

Tracklisting for “Marrow” is as follows:

01. Untethered
02. Liberator
03. Moonlight Over Silver White
04. Until You Return
05. My Will Be Done
06. Far From Home
07. Marrow
08. White Snow, Red Shadows
09. Stumble On
10. Waiting To Fall
11. Tethered

“Marrow” is now available to pre order from the following:

All formats: https://maddermortem.bandcamp.com
CD and Vinyl: https://www.darkessencerecords.no/webshop/
US Webstore: https://darkessence.aisamerch.com/

MADDER MORTEM also have some news that will please fans who have been clamouring to get their hands on the band’s long-unavailable debut full-length album “Mercury”.

With 2019 being the 20th Anniversary of the release of the album,  the band are planning a special re-release of “Mercury” in which the original songs will be re-worked to reflect the MADDER MORTEM of today.

As the band explains:

“Back when we recorded “Mercury”, we were basically just kids, and we knew very little about how the recording process worked. The musicianship was mostly there, and the ideas were absolutely there, but as for production skills … we just liked reverb a lot! Thankfully, we ended up with a result we’re still proud of. But through the years, as we’ve played the songs with different line-ups, we’ve often talked about how cool it would be to bring the skills and know-how we now have to those ideas. BP has even made some quite elaborate pre-prods of several songs, but the timing has never been right for making a release out of it”.

The right time has finally arrived, but in order to be able to bring this much-cherished project, which will include not just the album, but also a very special show, to fruition, MADDER MORTEM really need the help of the metal community, and to this end the band has set up a Crowdfunding page, where fans can become an integral part of the process and reap some very unusual and very unique rewards. To get creative input and feedback from their fans, and to promote the new album, they’re also going out on their first headliner tour this fall.

ALTERNATIVE METALLERS MADDER MORTEM ANNOUNCE LINEUP CHANGE

Madder Mortem

MADDER MORTEM have today announced that guitarist Richard Wikstrand, who has been with the band since the release of “Red In Tooth And Claw”, will be leaving the band.  With three kids it has become more and more challenging for Richard to combine band and family life now that MADDER MORTEM has been picking up momentum and hitting the road more, and he has made the admirable decision of putting his family first.

Richard will be replaced by Anders Langberg, known from SOULS OF TIDE. Anders filled in for Richard on the second leg of MADDER MORTEM’s tour with SOEN last year, and with 14 live dates with MADDER MORTEM under his belt, the Madders are confident he’ll be a great asset to the band.

The lineup change has been timed to coincide with the upcoming release of the MADDER MORTEM’s new album “Marrow”, which is the first album that Richard recorded with the band, and both Richard and Anders will be participating in the band’s upcoming crowdfunding campaign, and will also both play with the band at the release party for “Marrow”.

Commenting on Richard’s departure, MADDER MORTEM had this to say:

“We are really sorry that Richard is leaving us, since he is an amazing guitar player, and has had a huge creative impact on “Marrow”. However, we respect and understand his need to put his family first, and we wish Richard the absolute best. He will still be a part of our upcoming crowdfunding campaign, and we hope that you’ll join us in giving him a great farewell at the release party for “Marrow”!”

More information about “Marrow” will follow within the next week.

STORMING NEW VIDEO FROM ALTERNATIVE METALLERS MADDER MORTEM MAKES ITS DEBUT

Madder Mortem band picture

Having recently debuted the opening track from their upcoming release “Red In Tooth and Claw”, Norway’s MADDER MORTEM have revealed yet another track from the album, this time in the form of a video by Truls Aagedal.

“Fallow Season” perfectly illustrates the different shades that MADDER MORTEM can infuse into their music. With its heavy riffing and the band’s classic metal stance it is easy to assume the track is going to be the epitome of heavy metal, but the sudden arrival on the sceneof Agnete M. Kirkevaag with her expressive, and impressive, vocals , comes almost as a shock, and gives a whole new perspective to the track.

Aside from Agnete of vocals, MADDER MORTEM’s lineup includes BP. M. Kirkevaag on guitar & vocals, Richard Wikstrand on guitars, Tormod L. Moseng on bass and Mads Solås on drums, and “Red In Tooth And Claw” sees the band release their sixth full-length album a whole seven years after their previous album “Eight Ways”, first appeared. The original quirkiness much loved by followers of the band is still there, but this time there are also plenty of catchy melodies and a selection of tracks that vary from doom-laden melodies to hard-hitting riffs.

“Red In Tooth And Claw” is the sixth full-length album from MADDER MORTEM, a band who has broken away from established genre boundaries, to develop an experimental progressive sound, epitomised by Agnete M. Kirkevaag’s extensive vocal range that can express itself in the most tender of whispers or the harshest of screams. Undoubtely, the seven years between the release of the band’s previous album “Eight Ways”, and “Red In Tooth And Claw”, have seen MADDER MORTEM’s quirkiness remain intact, whilst the addition of catchy elements and interesting shifts between doomy melodies and hard-hitting riffs have added a new dimension to the band’s sound. Aside from Agnete of vocals, MADDER MORTEM’s lineup includes BP. M. Kirkevaag on guitar & vocals, Richard Wikstrand on guitars, Tormod L. Moseng on bass and Mads Solås on drums.

Formed in 1993, and, having started out with a doom metal sound, MADDER MORTEM became one of the earliest bands from the contemporary Norwegian metal scene to break away from set genre boundaries. With each of its releases MADDER MORTEM continued to develop, seamlessly transitioning into an experimental progressive metal band with a unique sense of groove and contrasting arrangements.

With a lineup comprised of Agnete M. Kirkevaag on vocals, BP. M. Kirkevaag on guitar & vocals, Richard Wikstrand on guitars, Tormod L. Moseng on bass and Mads Solås on drums, and with seven years between the release of the band’s last album “Eight Ways” and “Red In Tooth And Claw”, the band still maintains the trademark MADDER MORTEM sound, which is so well defined by Agnete’s massive vocals that range from the most tender whispers to the most violent screams. All in all, the long-awaited album retains all of the band’s quirkiness, and gives it a catchy boost, with songs shifting between doomy melodies and hard-hitting riffs.

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS INKS DEAL WITH ALTERNATIVE METALLERS MADDER MORTEM

Dark Essence Records have today announced that they have added Norwegian Alternative Metallers MADDER MORTEM to their roster. The label is set to release the band’s sixth full length album, titled “Red In Tooth And Claw”, later this year, on a date as yet to be announced. As a taste of what fans can expect, MADDER MORTEM have put together a teaser of some of the songs from “Red In Tooth And Claw”, which can be heard at http://www.maddermortem.com/mp3/teasers/MM_RITAC_Teaser_01.mp3

Formed in 1993, originally under the name of Mystery Tribe, MADDER MORTEM’s music, with its hauntingly beautiful vocals by Agnete M. Kirkevaag, is atmospheric and melodic, with a very definite progressive leaning, but at the same time the band can show an underlying aggression that gives their sound a harder, more driven edge than one might expect. Aside from Agnete, MADDER MORTEM’s five-member lineup includes BP. M. Kirkevaag on guitar & vocals, Richard Wikstrand on guitars, Tormod L. Moseng on bass and Mads Solås on drums.
