Black Metal sales campaign

Black Metal Sales Campaign - Dark Essence Records

We’re continuing our summer sale campaign and this week we’ll focus on our Black Metal bands.

Back in the early 90’s, some characters in the Black Metal scene managed to put Bergen and the genre on the musical map, and there was a lot of focus, both from the national and international press, around the Black Metal genre, Bergen and Norway. You know what we talk about, so let’s not dwell on that stuff. What’s interesting here is the music, and there were some really great bands that came out of both Bergen and of course Norway in general (too many names to mention). The people behind the bands and the people behind Dark Essence Records, were friends before the label started and we used to hang out at the gigs, the Hole in the Sky festival (now Beyond the Gates) and of course at the Garage music pub. It’s quite fitting that the Dark Essence office is in the same building as the now closed down Garage, and now we usually meet at the Apollon record bar across the street.

Taake is the biggest band on Dark Essence Records, and undoubtedly the most known band too.

TAAKE’s 7 Fjell Box is on the Black metal summer sales campaign

Taake was one of the first bands we signed to Dark Essence Records, together with Hades Almighty and Nidigr, and they helped us kick start the label. So, we’re pleased to have many of the Taake cds, vinyl, box set and merchandise in this campaign. Another early signing to the label was the then young Bergen band Malsain, featuring among others Phobos (Aeternus, Gravdal, Gorgoroth live ++) on drums. We did two albums with Malsain, and their 2nd album is available here. A later signing was The 3rd Attempt, a band consisting of both the original Carpathian Forest guitarists.

Other newer Norwegian bands in the genre we’ve worked with was Sarkom where we did their 3rd and 4th album, and then we recently signed the Oslo band Acârash. We just released their 2nd album, so only their debut is available in this campaign. Greece has had a similar Black Metal tradition to Norway, and we’ve worked with a couple of Greek bands, like the debut from Ravencult (that album is sold out) and the the debut from band Lucifer’s Child, a band consisting of ex-Rotting Christ and Nightfall members. Other non-Norwegian bands was the first album from the British band Skaldic Curse (a band introduced to us by Hoest of Taake), featuring Fen members, and recently we released the 4th album by Italian band Darkend.

Let’s backtrack a bit to Taake, since we’ve done the two latest albums with the band Orkan. This band is the brainchild of Gjermund Fredheim (live guitarist and banjo hero for Taake) and Rune Nesse (live drummer for Taake). So there’re quite a strong connection between musicians in various band constellations and Dark Essence Records.

And last but not least, even though they’re strictly not Black Metal, we look at first Helheim album, “Jormundgand”, as a Black Metal classic and includes this one here.

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS REVEALS SINGLE & VIDEO FROM UPCOMING DARKEND ALBUM

Darkend - Spiritual Resonance

With “Spiritual Resonance”, the fourth full-length album from Italian Extreme Rituallers DARKEND, set for release on the 13th September, Dark Essence Records have today debuted a track from the album in both single and video format.

The track that has been chosen as a first taste of what fans can expect from the album is “With Everburning Sulphur Unconsumed”, which features guest vocals from WARDRUNA’s Lindy-Fay Hella, and the video, by vocalist Animae,  can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/OPht1dQl-_M

The single itself is available to download or stream at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Darkend_With-Everburning-Sulphur-Unconsumed

According to the band, “Spiritual Resonance” is the most mystcal and ritualistic album that DARKEND has made to date . Everything having been cathartically planned to take the listener through an esoteric journey.  As Animæ says “These are paths to my world beyond. Carrying the seeds of change”.

With original artwork by Jean Delville, which has been re-worked by Animæ, tracklisting for “Spiritual Resonance” is as follows:

  1. The Three Ghouls Buried At Golgotha
  2. Scorpio Astraea High Coronation
  3. With Everburning Sulphur Unconsumed
  4. Vessel Underneath
  5. Hereafter, Somewhere
  6. The Seven Spectres Haunting Gethsemane

DARKEND was formed in 2006 by drummer, and only remaining original member, Valentz,  who describes the fledgling band as “young guys wanting to let our energy out.  And black metal was the only way –  the left hand path we all aimed for”.  Having undergone the inevitable round of member changes, Valentz has today found the ideal lineup of  like-minded spirits with Animæ on Vocals, Antarktica on Grand Piano/Ambience, Ashes and  Nothingness on Lead Guitars, and Vinterskog on Bass.

Together they create music that is best described as Extreme Ritual Art.  “Arcane symphonies exalting ancient ceremonial chants lost in nocturnal remembrances, sulphur riffs engraved on black metal patterns and progressive freedom.  Lying at  the border between magic and spirituality, where cults and rituals can wander free in the wisdom of infinity, at the crossroads between life and death. Swallowed by the energy of the ceremony, engulfed by the dense smoke of incense, for DARKEND there’s no difference between good and evil, dream and reality”.

“Spiritual Resonance” will be released in CD and Digital formats, as well as in a Limited Edition vinyl version with alternative cover art.

“Spiritual Resonance”  is now available to pre-order from:

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS SIGNS ITALIAN EXTREME RITUALLERS DARKEND

Norway’s Dark Essence Records have inked a deal with Italian Extreme Ritual Artists DARKEND, and will be releasing the band’s fourth full-length album during 2019 on a date as yet to be announced.

Playing what the band calls Extreme Ritual Art, DARKEND was formed in 2006 by drummer, and only remaining original member, Valentz,  who describes the fledgling band as “young guys wanting to let our energy out.

Together they create music that “lies at the border between magic and spirituality, where cults and rituals can wander free in the wisdom of infinity, at the crossroads between life and death. Swallowed by the energy of the ceremony, engulfed  by  the dense smoke of incense, for DARKEND there’s no difference between good and evil, dream and reality”.

DARKEND’s enthusiasm at having been selected to be released on Dark Essence Records, a label whose roster boasts some of the most iconic bands in the Black and Extreme Metal genres, and which is well known for its unerring ability to pick out the best of the upcoming batch of Black and Extreme Metal artists, is obvious as the following comments from the various band members demonstrate:

Valentz (drums): I’m very proud that Darkend is now part of Dark Essence’s family. We’ll spread our art together! On all of you!

Animae (vocals): I feel honoured that  such an enlightened darkness has chosen to give loud voice to this shadowed universe that is relentlessly shaking, inside.

Ashes (guitars): I’m really excited to start working with Dark Essence. The hard work over the years has finally paid off. For us it really has been a big achievement. I thank all my friends and all the staff that supports us and stands by us!

Nothingness (guitars): We are really thrilled to start a partnership with Dark Essence Records. Their contagious enthusiasm will surely allow us to reach new goals and will bring our music a step forward.

Antarktica (keys, song writing): For the new album we wanted something different from ‘The Canticle of Shadows’, yet with the same sound matrix. After more than a year of song writing and hard work, and months locked in the recording studio, we got the result we were aiming for. So we couldn’t be prouder than signing for Dark Essence! We are happy they loved our work and we can’t wait for the album to be released!

Vinterskog (bass): Ever since I first got into black metal, I felt a connection with Norway and its artistic aura. And now, signing and working with one of the best labels not only from the country but from everywhere,  everything started is a big checkmark on my dreams list, and I am looking forward to this great collaboration!

To sum up , we can’t wait to start working with Dark Essence Records because we believe that their wide roster is attractive. It’s extreme, but not strictly bound to a music genre. It’s wider, complex… and we felt we had the music that could fit it! It was a total pleasure when they told us they liked our art. We closed a circle and started drawing together the next lemniscate!
