“Heathen”, which will mark the band’s 25th Anniversary,  is all that you would expect from AETERNUS, which was founded in Bergen by guitarist and frontman Ares and is one of the original pioneers of the Dark Metal genre. The seven-track album is packed full of AETERNUS’  trademark sound which combines features from both Black Metal and Death Metal . The complex extreme music is spiced with heavy riffs and melodic interludes, performed to perfection by vastly experienced and extremely skilled musicians.

With artwork by Tom Korsvold and photography by Ares, tracklisting for “Heathen” is as follows:

  2. The Sword of Retribution
  3. Conjuring of the Gentiles
  4. The Significance of Iblis

DARK METALLERS AETERNUS COMPLETE WORK ON EIGHTH FULL-LENGTH ALBUM

Veteran Norwegian Dark Metallers AETERNUS have completed work on what will be the band’s eighth full-length album.  Titled “Heathen”,  the seven-track album was recorded at Bergen’s Conclave & Earshot studios and  produced by Herbrand Larsen, and  is set for release on Dark Essence Records later this year.

One of the pioneers of the “Dark Metal” genre, AETERNUS was formed in 1993 by guitarist and frontman Ares.  The band’s sound is one that combines features from both Black Metal and Death Metal, interspersed with haunting, melodic interludes, all topped off with skilled musicianship. Commenting on what fans can expect from “Heathen”, an album which will also mark AETERNUS’ 25th Anniversary, the band had this to say:

” We feel we’ve produced seven great songs for “Heathen”, all with AETERNUS’ trademark sound, which is a mix of complex extreme music along with heavy riffs and of course some great melodic features.  You could say that we are more than satisfied with the results”.

Aside from Ares, AETERNUS’ lineup is composed of Phobos (GRAVDAL) on drums and KRAKOW’s Eld on bass, and sharp-eyed fans will notice that guitarist Specter is missing.   As the band explains:

“Before having fully completed the composition part of “Heathen”,  Specter felt that he had little more to  offer the band, and that his long search for music was not only taking up too much of his own time, but it was also slowing down AETERNUS’ progress,  and as a result, he decided that it was best for all concerned that he quit the band.  He did however compose several terrific riffs which we  feel are outstanding, and they have been included in the album. We would like to thank Specter for all his work with AETERNUS, and wish him all the best  for the future.

“This of course means that once again AETERNUS has recorded an album where Ares’ considerable skills have been put to good use, and he has composed and played all the guitar leads on “Heathen”.  We’re sure that having read this, fans are wondering what is going to happen as far as live performances go.  No problem there! We have hired Gorm, from the Norse metal band THYRUZ, to play live with us, and he has been busy rehearsing our material. He will be more than ready when AETERNUS hits the stage again”.

DARK METALLERS AETERNUS TO MARK THEIR 25TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A NEW ALBUM

It’s almost five years now since AETERNUS released their last album “…and the seventh his soul detesteth”  on Dark Essence Records, but fans of the veteran Norwegian Dark Metallers will have something to look forward to next year as the band has just announced that they plan to begin recording their new album in early January.  Not only will this be the band’s eighth full-length album, it will also serve to celebrate AETERNUS’ 25th Anniversary.

As with its predecessor, the new album will be recorded at Bergen’s Conclave & Earshot studios, and will be produced by Herbrand Larsen, who previously co-produced AETERNUS’ “Shadow of Old” and “Ascension of Terror” albums.  The album will be released on Dark Essence Records in 2018.

One of the pioneers for the “Dark Metal” genre, AETERNUS was formed in 1993 by guitarist and frontman Ares.  Aside from Ares, today’s lineup includes Phobos (GRAVDAL) on drums and KRAKOW’s Eld on bass.  The band’s sound is one that combines features from both Black Metal and Death Metal, interspersed with haunting, melodic interludes, all topped off with skilled musicianship.

Commenting on what will be their 25th Anniversary release, the band had this to say:  ” We`ve been working on new material for four years now, so it feels very good to know that we are finally ready to get the  best of it recorded and released  the same year that we mark our 25 year anniversary!  So expect only the best!  And before you know it we’ll also be  back on stage performing the songs live as well!”

DARK METALLERS AETERNUS STREAM SECOND TRACK FROM LATEST ALBUM

With their latest album “…And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth” receiving high praise from reviewers, Norwegian Dark Metallers AETERNUS are streaming a second track from what is their seventh full-length album on their SoundCloud page. The track “Spurcitias” can be heard here http://soundcloud.com/aeternusnorway/aeternus-spurcitias

“…And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth” was released earlier this year on Dark Essence Records, and was produced by Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) at the Conclave and Earshot studios in Bergen. All music for the album is by AETERNUS, whilst the concept and lyrics are by the band’s former bassist V’gandr (TAAKE, HELHEIM). Artwork for the ten-track album is by Timo Ketola, known for his work with bands such as for DEATHSPELL OMEGA, ASPHYX, DISSECTION MARDUK, WATAIN and OPETH amongst others. The first pressing includes AETERNUS’ 1995 “Dark Sorcery” EP as a bonus and is available directly from the label at http://karismarecords.bigcartel.com/artist/aeternus.

AETERNUS was one of the original pioneers of what these days is called Dark Metal, and which, in AETERNUS’s case, combines features from both Black and Death Metal, together with occasional melodic interludes and superlative guitar playing. The band’s current line up includes guitarist and frontman Ares, who originally founded the band in 1993, Specter (ex-GRAVDAL) on guitars, Eld (KRAKOW) on bass and Phobos (GRAVDAL, MALSAIN) on drums. DARK ESSENCE RECORDS FIELDS A TOTAL OF SEVEN BANDS AT THIS YEAR’S INFERNO FESTIVAL

Bergen-based DARK ESSENCE RECORDS, the Norwegian label whose roster features not only some of the most respected and long- standing Black and Extreme Metal artists in the business, but also some of the most talented upcoming bands, showcases no less than seven of its bands at this year’s Inferno Festival. One of Europe’s foremost music festivals Inferno takes place annually in Oslo, and this year runs for four days from the 27th to the 30th March http://www.infernofestival.net

Opening night of the festival, which is effectively the club night, sees four of the bands appearing at Blå. Post Rockers KRAKOW (http://www.krakowofficial.com/), whose critically acclaimed sophomore album “diin” was release in Autumn of last year, kick off the evening at 21:00, followed by Melodic Extreme Metallers COR SCORPII (http://www.corscorpii.net/), who are currently working on their next album. Third band on will be VULTURE INDUSTRIES (http://www.vulture-industries.net/ ), a band whose skilled interpretation of avant-garde extreme metal, coupled with the highly theatrical and manic performance of frontman Bjornar Nilsen, makes for a fascinating live show. Topping the bill will be HELHEIM (http://helheim.com/ ) one of the original Norwegian Viking Metal bands who celebrate their historical roots both in their music and in the visual effects used in their live performances, and who have been together for over twenty years. Information about how to get to Blå can be found at http://www.blaaoslo.no/

Thursday 28th sees another band celebrate its twentieth anniversary when TAAKE headlines on the Rockefeller stage at 23:00. TAAKE frontman HOEST will also be holding a signing session at 15:00 in the Shadowland record store (http://www.shadowland.no/), Torggata 36 (200 meters from the Rockefeller). Formed in 1993, TAAKE’s contribution to the Norwegian Black Metal Scene has been considerable; with founder Hoest remaining true to his Black Metal roots, whilst still being able to breathe life and originality into the genre even after twenty years. The band recently released “Gravkamre, Kroner og Troner” (Tombs, Crowns and Thrones), a double Anniversary CD which feature exclusive new tracks as well as rare and previously unreleased material, alternative versions of previously released tracks and recordings that have, until now, only been available on vinyl. More information about TAAKE at http://taake.svartekunst.no/

AETERNUS will hit the Rockeffeler stage on Friday 29th at 19:45, a few days in advance of the release of “…And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth”, the band’s seventh full-length album. Founded in 1993 by guitarist and frontman Ares, AETERNUS has re-emerged seven years after the release of their last album “Hexaeon” with a new line up that comprises Ares on guitars and vocals, Phobos (GRAVDAL, MALSAIN) on drums and Specter on guitars. One of the pioneers of what the band calls “Dark Metal”, AETERNUS’ sound combines features from both Black Metal and Death Metal with superlative guitar playing and occasional haunting, melodic interludes. More information about AETERNUS can be found at https://www.facebook.com/Aeternusofficial

Saturday 30th, the last day of the festival, also sees the last of the DARK ESSENCE RECORDS bands to appear. HADES ALMIGHTY will play on the Rockefeller Stage at 19:45, and incidentally they were one of the bands who performed at the very first Inferno Festival in 2001. Apart from the occasional live appearance from the trio of Janto on Bass and Lead Vocals, Jorn on Guitars and Synth and Remi on Drums and vocals, things have been relatively quiet since the re-release in 2004 of their 2001 classic “The Pulse of Decay”, but the band has been busy behind the scenes working on the next album. More information about HADES ALMIGHTY can be found at http://www.hades-almighty.com/

Aeternus teams up with The Mythology Agency

Dark Metallers AETERNUS, who are currently in the studio with producer Bjornar E. Nilsen recording what will be their seventh full-length album, have joined forces with the UK based Mythology Agency who will represent the band’s booking interests world-wide outside of their home country of Norway. Mythology ‘s Mark Lewis stated: “For many years AETERNUS have been a driving force in the Norwegian underground, quite possibly one of the first (second wave) bands to understand the limitations of the term “Black Metal” whilst retaining their destructive heaviness and dark aesthetic with authenticity. This is a criminally underrated band despite having an incredible back catalogue and dedicated fans throughout the world. There can be no doubt that a re-appreciation of their work by the metal press is long overdue – and as a result this is exactly the type of band that excites me personally. With a refreshed line-up and much anticipated new album being recorded Mythology are extremely proud and excited to being working with the band. “With wisdom we walk, with might we slay!”

AETERNUS was formed in Bergen in 1993 by guitarist and frontman Ares and is one of the pioneers of what the band calls “Dark Metal”, which meshes the sounds of Black Metal and Death Metal with superlative guitar playing and occasional haunting, melodic interludes. With seven years between the release of the band’s last album “Hexaeon” and the upcoming “And the Seventh His Soul Detesteth”, which is set for release later this year on Dark Essence Records, AETERNUS re-emerged recently with a new lineup that includes GRAVDAL members Phobos on drums and Specter on guitars. Following a stunning live comeback performance at the Hub and Huey festival in the Netherlands last month Ares commented, “Talking to Mark convinced us that he understood exactly what AETERNUS was all about, and the collaboration with Mythology couldn’t have come at a better time because AETERNUS is back with a vengeance and ready not only to remind our old fans of what they have been missing, but also show a whole generation of new fans the intensity and power that AETERNUS brings to everything we do.” More information about AETERNUS can be found on the band’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/Aeternusofficial

AETERNUS TO ENTER STUDIO TO RECORD SEVENTH ALBUM

Norwegian Dark Metallers AETERNUS are set to enter Bergen’s Conclave and Earshot Studios in June together with producer Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) to begin recording the band’s seventh full length album. The album, to be titled “And the Seventh His Soul Detesteth”, will be released on Dark Essence Records later this year.

Formed in 1993 in Bergen, and with six full length albums under their belts, AETERNUS is one of the pioneers of what the band calls “Dark Metal”, meshing the sounds of Black Metal and Death Metal with superlative guitar playing and occasional haunting, melodic interludes. Of the original line up, only founder, guitarist and frontman Ares remains, but he has put together a new and formidable line up, bringing onboard drummer Phobos (GRAVDAL, GALAR, MALSAIN) and guitarist Specter (GRAVDAL, live session guitarist GALAR, VULTURE INDUSTRIES). Session live bass is handled by Skyggen (TORTORUM, DEAD TO THIS WORLD, live session guitarist GORGOROTH). The new lineup will hit the stage at the Hub and Heuy Metalfest at De Azijnfabriek in Roermond, Netherlands on the 19th May, with an exclusive set showcasing tracks from AETERNUS’ first two albums “Beyond the Wandering Moon” and “And So the Night Became”.

Commenting on the re-emergence of the band, seven years after the release of their last album “Hexaeon”, Ares, said “Time seems to just pass by without you realising. Although AETERNUS hasn’t seemed to be very active recently, I have been writing and working on new material, and we have chosen ten tracks for the new album which we have been rehearsing ready for when we enter the studio. I’m not going to say much about them except that Phobos and Specter have brought their own approach to things without losing any of the heaviness, power and intensity that people have come to expect from AETERNUS. It’s a whole new era for the band, and we can’t wait to get going”. More information about AETERNUS can be found on the band’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/Aeternusofficial
