SLEGEST REVEAL A SECOND TRACK FROM UPCOMING ALBUM

Slegest

“Introvert”, the third studio album from Norway’s SLEGEST,  is brimming over with the kind of tasty riffs and catchy hooks that reach out of the speakers and grab the attention  of classic heavy rock fans.  Combine that with the essence of Black Metal, and you get the unmistakable, genre-straddling, trademark SLEGEST sound.

With its release scheduled for the 16th November on Dark Essence Records, a second track from the album has been revealed.  Titled ” Blodets Varme Gjennom Meg”,  frontman and founder Ese describes the song as:

A soaring track of heavy rock with a grand finale. Perfect for driving. Lyrically it deals with intoxication, not as perfect for driving but very good for music and overall feeling in body and soul. For me the 80’s vibe is strong on this one, and it has nods to old Rush and even Åge Aleksandersen himself.

“Blodets Varme Gjennom Meg” can be heard below

With cover artwork by Anders Røkkum,  the bass and vocals for “Introvert”  were recorded in Systrond and engineered by Ese.  Drums and guitars were recorded at the  Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen with  Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen engineering the drums,  whilst the guitars were engineered by Herbrand Larsen, who also mixed the album.  Iver Sandøy handled the mastering.

Tracklisting is as follows:
1 Blodets Varme Gjennom Meg
2 Undergangens Tankesmed
3 Maler Lys I Mørketid
4 Da Brenne I Glåsi
5 I Den Sanne Flamme
6 Dødskyss
7 Leitar
8 Den Onde Sirkel

SLEGEST ANNOUNCE DETAILS OF UPCOMING ALBUM AND EUROPEAN TOUR

The release date for the “Introvert”, the new full-length album from SLEGEST has been set for the 16th November on Dark Essence Records.  Sounding more rock than ever, “Introvert”  will be the third studio outing for the Norwegians, and will comprise eight tracks guaranteed to please the fans of SLEGEST’s riff-laden music.

“Introvert” promises to be an album in which SLEGEST’s trademark sound  of black metal and classic heavy rock is well and truly defined.  The shades of the 80’s are more present than before, and the album is filled with great riffs, ensnaring hooks and a vicious catchiness. The title, on the other hand, reflects the material’s origin, as SLEGEST’s  frontman and main composer Ese explains:

“An introvert – a person who is predominantly interested in their own inner experiences. The album is born out of a mindset and lifestyle characterized by introversion. SLEGEST’s music has always fed on inner moods, feelings, nostalgia and heavy rock. Nevertheless, this inspiration from within has led to our most outgoing and in-your-face material ever! We are surpassing ourselves on this one, let it spin in the face of life itself!”

Bass and vocals for “Introvert”  were recorded in Systrond and engineered by Ese.

SLEGEST HINT AT WHAT TO EXPECT FROM NEW ALBUM AND RELEASE LIMITED EDITION DOUBLE 7″

Norway’s SLEGEST are shortly to head to the studio  to record what will be the band’s third full-length album.

All the new material has been written and rehearsed, and an early April date has been set for SLEGEST to begin recording,  with Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) at the helm in his Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen.  According to the band, the new album will show a different side of SLEGEST:

“Riff and sinestry ladies and gentlemen! We have as always turned our eyes inwards to make music. Nevertheless the new songs show a different side of SLEGEST, stained with the music we grew up with – the traditional heavy rock of the 80’s. At the same time we have had an almost ridiculous focus on the SLEGEST sound, so those of you who are into that won’t be disappointed. When the time comes, let this one spin in the face of life itself!”

It is anticipated that the new, as yet to be named, album will be finished by the end of May, with the release on Dark Essence Records sometime in the Autumn.

As well as working on the new album, SLEGEST have also been in Stavanger to record two tracks for an upcoming Limited Edition 7″ Vinyl.  Titled “Lagnad i E”, it will contain four tracks, two of which will be new, and two of which were recorded live.

Set to be released in May on RhinoRat Recordings,  and with artwork by Renathe H. Bryn, tracklisting for “Lagnad i E” is as follows:

  1. Maler Lys I Mørketid
  2. Blodets Varme Gjennom Meg
  3. Rooted In Knowledge (live in Fresvik)
  4. Ho Som Haustar Aleine (live in Fresvik)

SLEGEST REVEALS VIDEO FOR TRACK FROM UPCOMING ALBUM

Norway’s SLEGEST, whose unmistakable, swaggering, heavy rock sound is filled with infectious riffs, distinctive melodies, and vocals that owe their provenance to Black Metal, are set to release their second full-length album “Vidsyn” on Dark Essence Records on the 4th of November, have today revealed a video for the opening track from the album, which can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/itzR9V1JgN8

Founder and frontman Ese, who assures us that the video is “best enjoyed loud”, gives us an insight into the track: “I fortida sitt lys” is the opening track of “Vidsyn” and is somewhat of a punk number, or at least the closest you’ll get to it in the cold vein of Slegest, since groove and heaviness are the centre of it all. We think the vibe, the visuals, and the atmosphere of both the location for the shoot and the finished video complements the music and the feel not just of this song, but of the whole album.

” The concept behind the video was the brainchild of Håvard Nesbø, who also produced the video, on a budget, it has to be said, based on pure idealism and a case of home brewed lager. Filming took place in a valley in Leikanger, at the site of an old mountain barn that is long-abandoned by time. Like the song itself, the theme of the video can be placed within the context of the past – at the intersection of “the now” and the ever present whiff of olden times”.

Recorded at the Conclave & Earshot and the Systrond Studios, “Vidsyn” was jointly produced by Ese, and Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR), who also mixed the album. Mastering is by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED). Guesting on the album is Grutle Kjellson (ENSLAVED). The cover art is once again rooted in the art of Nikolai Astrup with design is by Tom Korsvold and drawing is by Lars Hellebø. Tracklisting is as follows:

1. I fortida sitt lys
2. Som i eit endelikt
3. Du
4. komfortabelt nommen midtvekes
5. Wolf
6. The Reanimator
7. Inn i uvissao
8. Tenn den gamle varde

SLEGEST lineup of Ese on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums, will celebrate the release of “Vidsyn” with show at Krøsset in Oslo on the 12th November, where they will be joined by Sweden’s ALFAHANNE. With the reputation that both bands have as high-energy and totally captivating performers, the event promises to be pretty special.

The band will then hit the road in December of this year , jointing SHINING’s 20th Anniversary tour, which also features Dark Essence label mates TAAKE, with whom the band has previously toured. The prospect of sharing a stage with Niklas Kvarforth and Hoest, widely acknowledged to be two of the most accomplished and exciting front men in extreme metal, would seem daunting to most bands, but judging from the reviews SLEGEST has received for its live performances, and from the number of fans the has picked up following those performances, this is a band that is more than able to hold its own against the two titans.

Routing for the tour with SHINING and TAAKE as follows:

02 Dec: NUKE, Berlin, DE
03 Dec: Into Darkness Festival, Neushoom, Leeuwarden, NL
04 Dec: Underworld, London, UK
05 Dec: Petit Bain, Paris, FR
06 Dec: UBU, Rennes, FR

The choice of “Wolf” as the first track from the album to be debuted is explained by founder and frontman Ese: “Wolf was one of the first songs that surfaced when I started writing material for “Vidsyn”. It’s adrenalin-charged and with its loping time signature and riffs this track circles in on its prey like the Canis Lupus itself”.

SLEGEST’s sound owes as much to Black Metal as it does to Heavy Metal, and bands like BLACK SABBATH. There is a distinct swagger and confidence to the band, the kind that lies at the heart of all things Metal, and SLEGESTS use of superb guitar riffing and great melodies make it stand out from the usual speed merchants.

“Vidsyn”, which features a guest appearance by ENSLAVED’s Grutle Kjellson, was recorded at the Conclave & Earshot and Systrond Studios, and was jointly produced by Ese and Bjørnar E. SLEGEST was formed in 2010 by former VREID guitarist ESE, whose original intention was to play BLACK SABBATH inspired music paired with harsh vocals. Whilst SLEGEST undoubtedly owes much to Black Metal, there is a distinct metal swagger to the band’s music, with superb guitar riffing and plenty of melody, rather than an excess of speed.

“Vidsyn” sees SLEGEST confidently building on the sound they developed on their debut full-length “Løyndom”. As Ese explained recently:

“We will pick up where we left off with “Løyndom” – mid-paced heaviness in all its glory and filth. I have read blackened doom applied as a description to our music. But really you need to add a good dose of rock and then you might get the idea of what we are all about. There is so much to explore in our world of heavy rock and we are proud of our new songs which, to our ears – and, after all, we are the blueprint – sounds bloody brilliant. The album will of course deal with death, and, since I write all the music and spend plenty of time thinking about death, I guess it is safe to say that we are most likely onto something”.

SLEGEST will hit the road in December of this year , joinuing SHINING’s 20th Anniversary tour, which also features Dark Essence label mates TAAKE, with whom the band has previously toured. The prospect of sharing a stage with Niklas Kvarforth and Hoest, widely acknowledged to be two of the most accomplished and exciting front men in extreme metal, would seem daunting to most bands, but judging from the reviews SLEGEST has received for its live performances, and from the number of fans the lineup of Ese on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums, has picked up following those performances, this is a band that is more than able to hold its own against the two titans.

Before the start of the tour SLEGEST will launch the new album with a show at Krøsset in Oslo, where they will be joined by ALFAHANNE, and, given the dynamism and sheer entertainment value of the two bands, this will be an evening to remember.

Shining Taake TourPR

The pairing of two such iconic bands will provide an interesting mix for fans, with SHINING’s DSBM roots matched with TAAKE’s Norwegian Black Metal roots. Over the years both bands have taken the basic premises of their respective genres, and, whilst remaining true to them, have consistently kept them fresh by expanded and experimenting, sometimes taking them in directions that have surprised fans, but always maintaining the highest quality in terms of writing and musicianship. Both Kvarforth and Hoest are, in fact, acknowledged to be two of the most dynamic live performers today.

Taake PR

Whilst the name SLEGEST is perhaps not as familiar to fans as SHINING and TAAKE, the band has been earning rave reviews both for their studio output and for their live performances, earning them an ever-increasing fan base. In the wake of his departure from VREID, where he played guitar on four of the iconic band’s albums, Ese formed SLEGEST in 2010, and the band has since then perfected a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal that is both dark and sinister, whilst being propelled along by a down and dirty groove that is immediate and catchy. The band’s second full-length album will be released in November on Dark Essence Records.

NEW ALBUM FROM SLEGEST NEARS COMPLETION. BAND HINTS AT WHAT TO EXPECT

Slegest3-640x427

It’s been a couple of years since Norway’s SLEGEST released their debut full-length album on Dark Essence Records to much critical acclaim, and with fans wondering when they can expect to hear more, the band have today revealed that their sophomore album is well on the way to completion. The new work is being recorded and mixed at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen, with VULTURE INDUSTRIES Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen at the helm. With mixing just about finished, the album is set for release on Dark Essence Records during 2016.

SLEGEST was formed in 2010 by former VREID guitarist ESE, originally with the intention of playing BLACK SABBATH inspired music with harsh vocals. Not one to leave a good idea to languish, Ese took the concept further and SLEGEST grew into the rock-orientated entity it is today, with a sound that is distinguished by a very definite Black Metal edge, and which Metal Hammer described as a “focused attempt to marry the atmospheres and primitivism of the blackened hordes to the rumbling swagger of prime BLACK SABBATH and the best strident old-school metal… with a subtle melodic sense that owes its leather-clad backside to DIO, PRIEST and even SCORPIONS”.

SLEGEST’s first release was the self-titled 2012 EP, which appeared as both a digital release and as a 7” vinyl on Ese’s own label Systrond Recordings. With Norway’s Dark Essence Records, a label that has, over the years, demonstrated an uncanny ability to spot some the best local talent around, snapping up the band, SLEGEST’s debut full-length album “Løyndom” appeared in the autumn of 2013. The response to “Løyndom” convinced Ese that this was a project that needed to be made into a full-blown live band, and with Ese (ex-VREID) on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums, SLEGEST hit the road with TAAKE and earned themselves a whole new set of admirers.

Commenting on what fans can expect from their sophomore album, Ese had this to say: “We will pick up where we left off with “Løyndom” – mid-paced heaviness in all its glory and filth.

Slegest

Slegest came into life as Ese left Vreid in 2010, where he played guitar on four albums. For Slegest, Ese wanted to use his inspiration from Black Sabbath and combine this with harsh vocals. This resulted in a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal elements, creating a dark and sinister sound combined with lots of groove. The self-titled Slegest debut EP was released in 2012 and got very good feedback from the metal scene. Shortly thereafter Ese started the work on his debut album “Løyndom” wich was released on Dark Essence records in 2013.

With their second full length album “Vidsyn”. As on the first album, they stick to a brew cooked from a base of black metal malt, mixed with hops from Toni Iomis back garden, stored on vintage 70’ties barrels with a cassette deck playing 80’ties thrash classics in the background, and finaly bottled in a isolated barn way up Sognefjorden. Slegest maintain a focus on first class grooves and solid heavy riffs rather than speed, and with even stronger songs and production, and a solid character and nerve, “Vidsyn” shows a more mature band.

“Introvert”, the upcoming third studio album from SLEGEST, sees the Norwegians well and truly solidifying that bone crunching mix of black metal and classic heavy rock that is their trademark sound.

Filled with tasty riffs, hooks that pull you in, and a vicious catchiness, the 80’s feel makes itself subtly felt on the new album.

Bass and vocals for “Introvert” were recorded in Systrond and engineered by Ese. Drums and guitars were recorded at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen with Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen engineering the drums, whilst the guitars were engineered by Herbrand Larsen, who also mixed the album. Iver Sandøy handled the mastering.

With cover artwork by Anders Røkkum.

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS DEBUTS TRACK FROM UPCOMING SLEGEST ALBUM

With a release date for SLEGEST’s debut full-length album “Løyndom” set for the 7th October, Dark Essence Records has today previewed a track from what will be the debut album from former VREID guitarist Ese. “Ho Som Haustar Aleine” is the opening track from “Løyndom” and can be heard at http://soundcloud.com/dark-essence-records/slegest-ho-som-haustar-aleine

Recorded partly in Ese’s own Systrond Studio and partly at the Conclave and Earshot Studio with producer Bjørnar E. Nilsen, and mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen, “Løyndom” (Secret), is a mix of classic heavy rock and old school black metal that has an distinctly down and dirty, and addictively catchy, groove running through it. Track listing for “Løyndom” as follows:

1. Ho Som Haustar Aleine
2. Rooted In Knowledge
3. I Slike Stunder
4. Løgna Sin Fiende
5. The Path Of No Return
6. Faceless Queen
7. Dirt Life Death
8. Past Burden Strength

When Ese formed SLEGEST in 2010 following his departure from VREID, where he played on four albums, his original intention was that it should be a solo project, and, indeed, apart from a guest solo by former VREID band-mate Sture, Ese plays all the instruments himself on “Løyndom”. However, it soon became clear to everyone who heard the album that SLEGEST was a live band waiting to happen, and a live line-up has now been put together, which, apart from Ese on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, consists of Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums.

SLEGEST is also busy putting the finishing touches to a music video for “Ho Som Haustar Aleine”. Produced by Håvard Nesbø and Ørjan Talle, the video will premiere before the release of “Løyndom”.

SLEGEST ANNOUNCES LIVE LINE UP. NEW MUSIC VIDEO IN THE WORKS.

With a new album about to be released, SLEGEST founder and frontman Ese has put together a live lineup to take what was initially a solo project onto the stage. “As soon as the album was announced I was being asked if the band would ever play live” says the former VREID guitarist, “and as it happens, the time felt right to take the next step in SLEGEST’s development. Once I had everyone on board, the thought of playing live again felt really good. It’s one of the greatest satisfactions there is when you play music, and honestly we can’t wait to get up there on stage”. Aside from Ese on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, SLEGEST’s live line up includes Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on bass and Fjøsne on drums.

SLEGEST are also working on a music video for “Ho Som Haustar Aleine” the opening track on the band’s upcoming album “Løyndom”. The video is being produced by Håvard Nesbø and Ørjan Talle, and, according to Ese, the budget is 1 case of Hansa beer and 1 litre of Mackmyra Brukswhisky! The video will premiere in September.

“Løyndom” (Secret) will be the band’s debut full-length album, and is set for release on Dark Essence records in the autumn. Mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen and recorded partly in Ese’s own Systrond Studio and partly at the Conclave and Earshot Studio with producer Bjørnar E. Nilsen, the artwork “Løyndom” includes drawings by Jan Magne Vigdal and design by Tom Korsvold. Track listing on the 8-track album, which is a perfect showcase for Ese’s special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal is as follows:

1. Ho Som Haustar Aleine
2. Rooted In Knowledge
3. I Slike Stunder
4. Løgna Sin Fiende
5. The Path Of No Return

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS REVEALS TRACK LIST AND ARTWORK FOR SLEGEST DEBUT ALBUM

Dark Essence Records has revealed more details about the debut album from SLEGEST, the solo project of former VREID guitarist Ese. Set for release later this year, the eight-track album will be titled “Løyndom” (Secret) and was recorded partly in Ese’s own Systrond Studio and partly at the Conclave and Earshot Studio with producer Bjørnar E. Nilsen. The album is mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen. Track listing for “Løyndom” as follows:
1. Ho Som Haustar Aleine
2. Rooted In Knowledge
3. I Slike Stunder
4. Løgna Sin Fiende
5. The Path Of No Return
6. Faceless Queen
7. Dirt Life Death
8. Past Burden Strength

SLEGEST was born in 2010, following Ese’s departure from VREID, where he played guitar on four of the iconic band’s albums. Drawing his inspiration from BLACK SABBATH, Ese’s use of harsh vocals to create a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal was used to great effect on the band’s first release, the self-titled SLEGEST EP which appeared in 2012. One year later Ese has developed SLEGEST’s sound further, honing it to achieve a result that is both dark and sinister, whilst at the same time losing none of the dirtiness that can be heard in the unmistakable catchy groove that weaves its way through the music.

Whilst SLEGEST started life as solo project, with Ese handling vocals and playing all the instruments on “Løyndom”, apart from a guest solo by former VREID band-mate Sture, it became apparent very quickly to everyone who heard the album that the potential for taking SLEGEST further and turning it into a live band was unmistakable and to ignore it would be insanity. As a result a live line-up has been put together and will be seen at festivals in the near future.

SLEGEST INKS DEAL WITH DARK ESSENCE RECORDS

SLEGEST, the solo project of former VREID guitarist Ese, has inked a deal with Dark Essence Records for the release of the band’s debut full length album. No release date has yet been set, but it is anticipated that the album will appear world-wide towards the end of 2013.

Formed in 2010, it was the intention of Ese to create Black Sabbath inspired music with harsh vocals. An idea he took further, developing SLEGEST into the entity it is today with its rock-orientated sound distinguished by a distinctive Black Metal edge. SLEGEST’s first release was the self-titled 2012 EP, which appeared as both a digital release and as a 7” vinyl on Ese’s own label Systrond Recordings. Work on writing new material for the as yet untitled debut full-length album began in 2012, and the drum tracks have already been laid down at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen, Norway.

Whilst many maintain that solo projects can be limiting, Ese sees things very differently. As SLEGEST’s man (and only) man explains: “When you have to play every instrument yourself it does impose certain limitations on what you can, and cannot, do. But I have always had a very definite vision as to how I want SLEGEST to sound, and these limitations are very positive for the fulfilment of that vision”.

HELHEIM REVEAL NEW VIDEO FOR TRACK FROM LATEST ALBUM

Helheim-band-rignir_Hires-(Photo_-Tom-Korsvold-_-Andreas-Fiske)

HELHEIM, whose recently released album “Rignir” has been receiving plaudits from fans and reviewers alike, have just released a video for the title track.  The video, by Romanian multi-media artist Costin Chioreanu can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/5MiD3pgnW-4

The album itself, whose title “Rignir” means rain, draws its inspiration from the weather in HELHEIM’s home town of Bergen, notorious for its high rainfall, and, once again the band  has turned to their Norse heritage when writing the poems that form the lyrics for  the album,  using the ljóðaháttr, an Old Norse alliterative verse form used largely in the Eddas.

Regarding the video for “Rignir” and the band’s cooperation with Chioreanu, HELHEIM’s V’gandr had this to say:

Collaborating with Costin has been an absolute honour and pleasure. The way he interpreted the song is nothing short of perfection and we tip our hats to the gentleman. He used our audio and lyrical canvas to paint the emotions we were trying to create. The circle is complete.

Chioreanu, who has a long history of working with Dark Essence Records, and their sister-label Karisma Records, spoke about what it was like to work with HELHEIM, a band he had long-admired:

I first discovered Helheim in the late 90’s after I found a bootleg cassette copy of their “Av norrøn ætt” album on the black market  in post-communist Romania. Their music has been around me since then and I’ve always been an admirer of how they have evolved.  After more than 20 years we finally met in Bucharest (coincidentally the same city where I first came across their music) to film a video, and we had such an amazing time doing it.

I would also like to say that my best videos and artworks are, strangely or not, those which I make for musicians who are true to themselves and enmesh perfectly with their work. Then, the vibe brought by our collaboration is warm and friendly. It’s as if the Universe wants to salute their dedication through my work, and such is the case with this music video, when everything in the making process was so magic al that I felt the work was creating itself.

Having just completed a European tour, upcoming live appearances for HELHEIM are as follows:

01 Jun:  John Dee, Oslo, Norway (with VULTURE INDUSTRIES & MADDER MORTEM)
16 Aug: Flytten, Haugesund, Norway (with SLEGEST & ACÂRASH)
09 Nov: Unholy Congregation Pt II, De Qubus, Oudenaarde, Belgium

“Rignir” is available in CD, Blue Vinyl (limited to 500 copies), and Digital formats, from all the usual retailers and streaming services as well as directly from Dark Essence Records at the following:

NORWEGIAN BLACK METALLERS SARKOM REVEAL VIDEO AHEAD OF SPECIAL SHOW FOR INFERNO FESTIVAL APPEARANCE

Norwegian Black Metallers SARKOM, whose fourth full-length album “Anti-Cosmic Art” was released on Dark Essence Records at the end of last year, have today revealed a video of a track from the album. Produced and directed by Andreas Luggen Martinussen , Edited by Kolbjørn Voll Hjelmerud and with music and lyrics by SARKOM founder and frontman E. Unsgaard, the video for the track “Seen through the eyes of a pedophile priest” can be seen below and on YouTube at https://youtu.be/fBsh5tKBrhg

Dealing, without a doubt, about a controversial subject, Unsgaard had this to say about the track itself and the video:

“I got the idea for this song after seeing the documentary “Deliver Us From Evil”. Pedophilia is something most people despise and don’t want to talk about, but it’s a deadly serious theme as these predators actually live amongst us. I did some research and the lyrics are based on how I would interpret the mind and thoughts of a pedophile. As for the video itself, it turned out pretty much as I had envisioned it, and I am very satisfied with the result. More so because it gave us the chance to work with a professional team with extensive experience gained in TV production. They also seemed to enjoy doing something different as working on this kind of music/video project was something new to them. I mean, the last TV production they worked on was “Paradise Hotel”…

SARKOM is set to appear at Inferno Festival in Oslo for the Dark Essence Label night which will take place at Blå on Wednesday 12th April. For their appearance the band will play a special set which will include songs that have rarely, or never, been played live. Additionally, the set will feature a guest appearance from BEASTCRAFT’s Sorath Northgrove.
Other Dark Essence Records bands scheduled for the event are SLEGEST, HAIL SPIRIT NOIR and SULPHUR.

SARKOM will also be appearing at the Dark Easter Metal Meeting in Munich, Germany, on the 15th April.

More information about SARKOM can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/sarkom

Dark Essence Records released SARKOM’s third full-length album “Doomsday Elite” in both CD and Digital formats in 2013, followed by the release of the band’s two earlier albums – 2006’s “Aggravation of Mind” and 2008’s “Bestial Supremacy” in Digital format. All three albums are available from, and can be heard at, https://sarkom.bandcamp.com

Løyndom

Slegest - Løyndom CD

Slegest came into life as Ese left Vreid in 2010, where he played guitar on four albums. For Slegest, Ese wanted to use his inspiration from Black Sabbath and combine this with harsh vocals. This resulted in a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal elements, creating a dark and sinister sound combined with lots of groove. The self-titled Slegest debut EP was released in 2012 and got very good feedback from the metal scene.

Shortly thereafter Ese started the work on his debut album, and now “Løyndom” is ready to be released on Dark Essence records. With “Løyndom” Slegest takes its original sound a step further, without losing any of the dirtiness or catchy groove. Apart from playing all the instruments (except a guest solo from his former band mate Sture), Ese also recorded and mixed most of the album at his Systrond Studio together with some parts at Conclave & Earshot Studio with Bjørnar E. Nilsen. The album is mastered by Herbrand Larsen (Enslaved).

Ese has now put together a live band, and will be seen at festivals in the near future. The Slegest combination of heavy and classic hard rock with old-school mid-paced black metal is a crushing experience, and fans of heavy and groovy extreme metal won’t be disappointed.

DARK ESSENCE AND KARISMA RECORDS INCREASE THEIR NORTH AMERICAN PRESENCE AND CELEBRATE WITH SPECIAL ITEMS FOR SALE

Dark Essence Records Logo

Norway’s sister labels Dark Essence Records and Karisma Records have expanded their North American operations with new distribution deals which sees the label’s catalogues distributed physically by Sony RED, whist The Orchard will handle all the digital distribution.

In addition, to meet the ever-growing demand from fans, the two Bergen-based labels have joined forces with AISA (http://www.aisamusic.com/ ) to open their own new North American webshops. “We have always been aware that the cost of postage from Europe in general, and Scandinavian countries in particular, is very high, and, with both labels having grown so rapidly over the past few years, and demand from North American fans increasing daily, we thought it was time to offer those fans a fairer deal”, commented the label’s Bjornar Erevik Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES). “We are very excited to work with AISA on our new North America set up. For us this is a unique opportunity to get into this market on terms that are tailor made for our catalogue, size and profile. The new setup offers us a much higher level of control and market insight than before, and we expect sales and exposure to increase significantly. So far our experience with AISA have been very positive and we are happy to further pursue the cooperation.”

With output differing greatly one from the other, Dark Essence and Karimsa Records are not just used to working with established, internationally recognised bands. They have both also garnered a reputation for being able to sniff out some of the best new local and international bands and help them to grow and develop. As Nilsen went on to explain “We do not see ourselves as just businessmen whose job happens to be running labels, as if often the case these days. Everyone working directly with us is heavily involved in music, either as musicians, managers or huge fans, so for us it’s a matter of pride to discover and nurture the talent that is out there. The expansion into North America will help us to support our artists with merchandise that is printed in the USA itself, thereby helping to reduce costs whilst touring, which, as everyone knows, is massively expensive undertaking for bands. We have also appointed a local label manager, and we have a good network of people over there, who will be able to help our artists further”.

Dark Essence Records is well known in the fields Black Metal and the more Extreme Metal genres and their roster contains some very high profile bands, some of whom have been around for well over two decades, as well as some of the most exciting relatively new musicians to have appeared on the scene. The label’s roster includes TAAKE, HELHEIM, HADES ALMIGHTY, AETERNUS, COR SCORPII, SARKOM, SLEGEST, THE 3rd ATTEMPT, ALFAHANNE, SULPHUR, GALAR, KRAKOW, MOMENTUM, ORKAN, LUCIFER’S CHILD, MISTUR, HAIL SPIRIT NOIR, RATTENFÄNGER, THE BATALLION. The new Dark Essence Records North American webshop will be celebrating its opening by making some rare test pressings available for purchase. The webshop can be found at http://darkessence.aisamerch.com/

Karisma Records, on the other hand, concentrates on the more Rock-oriented and Progressive side of the musical spectrum and the label’s roster contains much-respected veterans such as AIRBAG, VIRUS, MAGIC PIE, D’ACCORD, BJORN RIIS, BRIMSTONE and NORDAGUST, and fast rising bands such as TIEBREAKER, OSSICLES, SEVEN IMPALE, RENDEZVOUS POINT, FATAL FUSION. To celebrate the launch of the Karisma Records North American webshop, the label will also be making some rare test pressings available for purchase. HELHEIM’s V’GANDR TO MAKE GUEST APPEARANCE AT THE DARK ESSENCE RECORDS INFERNO FESTIVAL EVENT

labelnight1604v01

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS plans to make their annual Inferno Festival event a little different this year when they join forces with sister label KARISMA RECORDS to showcase two of their bands each at Blå on Wednesday 16th April. “We are always conscious of the fact that while many of Dark Essence’s artists such as TAAKE tour frequently, and fans in Europe have a good chance of seeing them live, the Karisma artists tend to tour much less, so we thought that this year we would open up the event to give their fans a chance to see some of them, and introduce them to Dark Essence’s fans at the same time”, commented the label’s Martin Kvam.

Representing Dark Essence will be two bands whose recent releases have been getting rave reviews from press and fans alike. First up will be SLEGEST, the new project from former VREID guitarist Ese, who has skilfully blended classic heavy rock and old-school black metal to produce a sound that is both dark and sinister, and with an unmistakably down and dirty catchy groove that weaves its way through the music. Originally started as a one-man project, once the debut full-length album “Løyndom” was released at the end of 2013, it quickly became clear that the demand from fans to see SLEGEST perform live was such that Ese was persuaded to form a fully functioning band. More information about SLEGEST can be found here.

The official video for the track “Ho Som Haustar Aleine” from SLEGEST’s “Løyndom” can be seen here.

Joining them will be Sweden’s ALFAHANNE, whose lineup includes members of bands such as VINTERLAND and early MAZE OF TORMENT, and who have come together to play what they themselves have called ”Alfapocalyptic Rock”, a fascinating and hard-hitting mix of Black Metal, Classic Rock and Punk with some Goth influences. Their high-energy live performances have garnered them much praise. Making a guest appearance on stage with ALFAHANNE, will be HELHEIM’s V’gandr who performed vocals on one of the tracks from the band’s new album “Alfapokalyps”. It is a tribute to ALFAHANNE that they were able to attract not only V’gandr to make a guest appearance on the album, but also Dark Essence label-mates Hoest from TAAKE and Niklas Kvarforth from SHINING. More information about ALFAHANNE can be found here.

The track “Såld På Mörkret” from ALFAHANNE’s album ”Alfapocalyptic Rock” and which features TAAKE’s Hoest on guest vocals can be heard here
Making an appearance for Karisma will be two bands, representing the new and the established. Lovers of Prog Rock cannot fail to recognise the name of AIRBAG, a band known the world-over for an exquisite musical craftsmanship that enables its musicians to create a sonic experience ranging from massive walls of sound, to ambient textures and soulful soundscapes, both in the studio and on stage. The release of AIRBAG’s third full-length album “The Greatest Show on Earth” at the end of last year confirmed the band’s status in the world of prog, earning them many accolades. Inferno will be one of the very few chancesthat to catch this incredible band live this year so it is an opportunity that should not be missed. One for fans of ANATHEMA. More information about AIRBAG can be found here.

The title track from AIRBAG’s album “The Greatest Show on Earth” can be heard here.

The second of the Karisma bands is one of their latest signings, SEVEN IMPALE. The release of the digital EP “Beginning/Relieve” last year gave an indication of the multi-faceted nature of these young musicians. With its member drawn from a range of disciplines including classical orchestra, big band, metal, jazz, rock and electronic music, their sound ranges from progressive and jazzy to the softer and more melodic to the harder and edgier. They bring a freshness and enthusiasm to their live performances, and it is anticipated that their debut full-length album later this year will more than meet expectations, setting them apart from many other new arrivals on the scene. If you are a fan of Norway’s SHINING, SEVEN IMPALE is definitely a band you will want to check out. More information about SEVEN IMPALE can be found here.
The title track from SEVEN IMPALE’s “Beginning/Relieve” EP can be heard here.

Scheduled performances for the Dark Essence Records / Karisma Records artists at Inferno Festival, which will take place at Blå, Brennereiven 9C, Oslo, Norway, on Wednesday 16th April as follows:

Seven Impale: 20:20
Slegest: 21:25
Alfahanne: 22:30
Airbag: 23:45
