In july 2005, Cor Scorpii entered Studio 1184 and Amla Metal Studio, in order to record their first demo. "Attergangar" consisted of 4 tracks of extreme metal, with emphasis on melodies, aggression and atmospheres. The demo was highly praised by both fans and press, and was among other things awarded demo of the month in Metal Hammer Germany. The demo also caught the attention of various record labels, and Cor Scorpii signed a deal with Dutch label Descent Productions.
In july/august 2007, time had come to record the debut full-length album. Cor Scorpii entered Børge Finstad's Top Room Studio, where the album entitled "Monument", was recorded and mixed. The album was mastered in the renowned studio Tailor Maid.
As things didn’t work out with Descent Productions, and there was a lot of demands from fans as well as distribution companies to obtain the album, Dark Essence records decided together with the band to re-release the album with the “Attergangar” demo as bonus tracks.
The album will be out in stores on the 1'th of march 2010, but is already avaliable from the dark essence records webshop.

28.10.09: NEW SIGNING
We can now announce the signing of the Black-Folk metal band Galar. The band, hailing from Bergen, Norway, is currently working on a new album, which is scheduled for release in early 2010. "Til Alle Heimsens Endar" will be Galar's sophomore album, and the follow up to "Skogskvad", which was released in 2007 to critical acclaim.
Galar stands out from the mass of synthesizer-riddled music that nowadays tends to proliferate within the symphonic extreme metal genre. Galar's use of a wide range of acoustic instruments such as bassoon, grand piano, double bass, cello, viola and violin, combined with blast beats and grim vocals, gives the band an original sound all of its own.

We're proud to announce that the Bergen based death metal band Sulphur has signed to Dark Essence Records for their 2nd album, "Thorns In Existence". Sulphur's new line-up consists of Erik Heggarnes (ex-Aeternus, ex-Gorgoroth, Bourbon Flame) on drums and Vegar Hovland on bass. The new album is produced by Bjørnar Nilsen at his Conclave Studio, and will be released late this fall. 10.08.09: DARK ESSENCE RECORDS SIGNS COR SCORPII!
We can now proudly announce the signing of the viking/black metal band Cor Scorpii. The band was formed in late 2004 by former Windir/Ulcus keyboard player Gaute Refsnes, and released their debut album "Monument" on Descent Productions last year.
While we're waiting for new material from the band, we'll re-release the "Monument" album together with the "Attergangar" demo this winter.

Norway’s HELHEIM is due to play two Russian dates later this year. This will be the first foray into the region for the Viking Metallers, who incorporate their love for their Norse heritage not only into their music, but also into their live performances, with the use of VJ effects to create a spectacular backdrop, illustrating each individual song with historic and symbolic images.

21.04.08: HELHEIM RELEASEPARTY AT LOCAL KINDERGARTEN
Today, the new album from Helheim, Kaoskult, was released, and the band celebrated that with a small acoustic concert at Klosteret kindergarten in Bergen. They played the songs "Svart Seid" and "Det Norønne Alter" for the kids, and told them stories from Norse Mythology. Rolf Royce who sings on the track "Svart Seid" on their new album, stepped in on clean vocals for the concert, acting as Odin.
Helheim drummer Hrymr says this about the show: "Helheim wanted to do a different kind of release concert to mark the new album 'Kaoskult'. We played for the oldest kids in the kindergarten, and the response was fantastic! Helheim have a genuine wish to spread the knowledge of Norse Mythology, and there is no better place to start than with the young children." Hrymr was able to put the essence of this stunt into a single sentence: "We need to let Metal and Odin catch the kids before Jesus does!".

Helheim appears on a compilation DVD from last years Ragnarok Festival in Germany, called "Might Is Right - Nordic Warchants II".
Helheim is included on a 90 minute DVD with a live recording of the song "Stones To The Burden", recorded at the festival. They appear alongside bands like Angantyr, Eluveitie, Heidevolk, Kampfar,
Koldbrann, Manegarm, Tyr and Urghehal.
The compilation also includes a double compilation album with different bands.

Since Toxic Holocaust had to cancel their spot at this years Hole In The Sky Festival, The Batallion is taking over!! They'll play on Wednesday 27.08 at the Garage venue.
Finally, we have some releasedates for the debut album of Obscure, which is called "On Formaldehyde". In Norway, the album will be in stores on the 29th of September. The rest of the world will get the pleasure to check it out on the 13th of October.
Obscure consists of Roy Kronheim (ex-Enslaved) among others, and "On Formaldehyde" is an awesome and diverse classic heavy metal album, just the way it should be!
In september, the vinyl release of The Batallion's debut "Stronghold Of Men" will be unleashed. The album has so far gotten rave reviews from both the press and fans, and the vinyl edition has been highly anticipated. It will of course be strictly limited, so order your copy from our webshop as soon as possible.

Today, the new album from Helheim, Kaoskult, was released, and the band celebrated that with a small acoustic concert at Klosteret kindergarten in Bergen. They played the songs "Svart Seid" and "Det Norønne Alter" for the kids, and told them stories from Norse Mythology. Rolf Royce who sings on the track "Svart Seid" on their new album, stepped in on clean vocals for the concert, acting as Odin. 
Helheim appears on a compilation DVD from last years Ragnarok Festival in Germany, called "Might Is Right - Nordic Warchants II". 
While Helheim are touring in Europe at the moment, they've put out some video footage from rehearsals for the Dark Essence Alliance tour. Check it out at Helheim's 
The line-up for our festival at Garage in Bergen, Norway on the 29. of February and 1st of March is complete. The doors will open at 20.00 both evenings, and there may also be a surprise or two during the festival.
Helheim is in the closing stages of the recording of their sixth album, "Kaoskult", at Conclave Studios in Bergen with producer Bjørnar E. Nilsen. The band says we can expect a darker and heavier album this time. "Kaoskult" will be released on the 21.04 worldwide. Finally, we got a release date for the 3rd album from the Belgain black metal band Panchrysia, entitled "Deathcult Salvation"! The album will be released in Norway on the 25th of February, and in the rest of the world on the 24th of March.
We're proud to announce that the most masculin band in the world (forget about Manowar!), The Batallion, has signed to Dark Essence Records. The band consists of Stud Bronson (ex-Old Funeral, Bombers), Lust Kilman (Grimfist), Colt Cane (ex-Borknagar, St. Satan) and Morden (ex-Taake, ex-Deathcon), and they give you bad ass 80's death thrash metal!!
